Pretoria - President Jacob Zuma has congratulated Reserve Bank Governor Gill Marcus for being named as the 2012 Emerging Markets Central Bank Governor for Sub-Saharan Africa.
"The award is proof that we have outstanding leaders in many sectors in our country, which makes us all proud and confirms that our country is in good hands in various sectors," said President Zuma on Monday.
Financial news service Emerging Markets on Saturday announced that Marcus, had won the 2012 Emerging Markets Central Bank Governor of the Year Award for Sub- Saharan Africa.
"The annual Emerging Markets Central Bank Governor and Finance Minister of the Year awards recognised Marcus for her actions taken to limit the impact of the global economic crisis on the South African economy," said the Reserve Bank in a statement.
The awards were selected by the Emerging Markets editorial team, taking into account the views of regional experts. The winners were announced in the Emerging Markets daily newspapers, published at the IMF and the World Bank annual meetings. - SAnews.gov.za
