Pretoria - The Tshwane Metropolitan Municipality's Disaster Management Centre says it will remain on high alert as heavy rains continue to fall over Pretoria on Tuesday.

The municipality had received a weather alert from the Weather Services that a storm with heavy rain was predicted for Monday which could lead to road flooding and reduced visibility acting the city.

However, there have not been many reports of incidences in the city.

According to Forecaster Venesia Magane from the South African Weather Services, Pretoria and Johannesburg will continue to experience isolated showers for the rest of the week.

"For Tuesday, there is a 60 percent of rain for both regions, Pretoria and Johannesburg," she said.

The Municipality's Disaster Management Centre has advised residents to:

* Fill all ditches up with mud, grass, gravel;

* Make sure the entrance to your house is higher than the surrounding ground;

* Store food and valuables on a higher area, such as on tables;

* Prepare an emergency kit with essential belongings in case you might have to evacuate the area;

* Remain in contact with your neighbours and take turns to monitor the water levels;

* Keep your radio on and listen to warning messages; and

* Cooperate with officials from the South African Police Services (SAPS), Metro Police, Roads and Stormwater, and Disaster Management when requested.
