Public urged to help find woman's missing head

Pretoria - Government has urged the public to assist the South African Police Services (SAPS) with information that can lead to the identification of a woman found murdered in Sunnyside.

A woman's torso, which had been burnt, was found in a suitcase in Sunnyside on Saturday afternoon with her head missing. Legs and an arm, believed to be belonging to the woman, were found in a dustbin two blocks away from where the torso was found the next day.

The woman's head is still missing.

She is believed to be aged between 18 and 24 and was wearing only a white and orange T-shirt.

Minister of Women, Children and Persons with Disabilities, Noluthando Mayende-Sibiya urged the local community to continue to be on the look out for the missing head and assist the police in resolving the case and the arrest of the culprits involved in this gruesome murder and body mutilation.

In a statement released on Monday, she said she appreciated that the body parts that were currently with the police had been recovered through information provided by members of the public.

Cases of murder of women and girls were of grave concern, said Minister Mayende-Sibiya, who warned that her department would ensure that these horrific acts of violence against women were addressed.

"Government has identified crime as the main challenge to be addressed immediately. The ministry will ensure that crimes against women and children are the main priority in the strategy to respond to crime," Ms Mayende-Sibiya said.
