Johannesburg - Communications Minister Faith Muthambi has welcomed the agreement reached between the South African Broadcasting Corporation (SABC) and Boxing South Africa (BSA) to bring South African boxing back to the larger South African viewers.

Minister Muthambi said she was happy with the agreement because South Africans will once again watch the new and upcoming boxers such as Arthur Mayiselas, Simon Tsipa Skhosanas, Brian Mitchelles, Harol Volbrechts, Tap Tap Makhathanis and Baby Jake Matlalas.

Speaking at the SABC Boxing South Africa launch on Friday, Minister Muthambi said the Ministry of Communications doors are open for any further engagements the two companies might require, and thanked promoters who were willing to come to the party.

“You showed and exemplified the Ubuntu Spirit of caring and ensuring that young men and women can have that dream of escaping poverty through Boxing,” the Minister said.

The Minister hoped that the spirit that boxers have will be carried out to youth through television and influence their approach to life.

“I have observed how Boxing, even though it is an individual sport, requires the boxer to have social skills, tactical and strategic skills and a team that will prepare him or her to use their aggression correctly to help them win competitive bouts.

“I am sure most of you are aware that South Africa will this year make the switch from analogue to digital television. Our march towards digital migration is nothing short of ground breaking, and it will open the exciting world and possibilities of communication to millions including boxing fans,” she said. - SAnews.gov.za
