Pretoria - In an effort to promote compliance and to get taxpayers to file their returns early, the South African Revenue Service (SARS) is to set up help points in several malls.
Taxpayers in Durban will this weekend be able to access tax help at the Pavilion and Gateway Malls.
Nelspruit taxpayers can receive assistance at the Riverside Mall and in Cape Town, taxpayers can access help at the Cape Gate Shopping Mall. Those in Rustenburg can visit the Waterfall Shopping Mall.
SARS officials will also be at these malls on the 18 and 19 and 25 and 26 September weekends as well as on 20 and 21 November.
"This ... reflects the commitment of SARS to continually reach out to taxpayers; improve the quality of service they receive and to educate current and future taxpayers about their tax responsibilities," said SARS Executive for Taxpayer Engagement, Sobantu Ndlangalavu on Thursday.
To date SARS has received more than 1.3 million returns for the 2010 tax season.
Since 1 July SARS officials have visited 787 workplaces across the country in order to assist employees. SARS outreach teams have assisted 30 000 employees to register and file on e-Filing through workplace visits while 15 327 new taxpayers have been registered.
