Pretoria - "Dear Madiba - please get well" - this is one of the messages written on placards at Milpark Hospital where former President Nelson Mandela spent the night for a routine check up.
Children from the McAuley House Catholic Independent Day School spent their morning drawing up the placards and hanging them up outside the school which is located near the hospital.
Reitumetse Sekoapi, an 11-year-old Grade 6 pupil, told BuaNews: "He is a very good leader and we thank him for bringing justice to our country. We want him to get well."
Grade 4 teacher at the school, Diedre Axford, said that by the time the learners had reached the school premises they had already heard the news that Madiba was in hospital.
"It was the school's idea to do something for Madiba," said Axford, as she helped several children put up their posters.
Some posters bore the handprints of the children who had signed their names onto the placards, while others had "get well soon Madiba!" messages.
Local and international media continued to camp outside the hospital premises this morning, with journalists jostling for parking space, while ambulances drove past and went about their day-to-day business.
No official word has been issued by the hospital.
