Pretoria - The Standing Committee on Public Accounts (SCOPA) is on Thursday meeting with Public Works Minister Thulasi Nxesi and his management in Pretoria to discuss, among other things, actions taken to condone irregular and unauthorised expenditure at the department.
According to a statement issued by SCOPA, the visit to the department is a follow-up from the engagement the committee held with the department in Parliament earlier this year.
The committee and the minister will be discussing irregular expenditure amounting to R181 776 000 as well as fruitless and wasteful expenditure amounting to R69 269 000 that was awaiting condonation as at 31 March 2012 and the unauthorised expenditure amounting to R83 082 000 that was awaiting authorisation at 31 March 2012.
The committee said it had asked the department to provide updated details on actions taken to condone the irregular and unauthorised expenditure.
SCOPA has identified the department as one of its key oversight focus service delivery areas as it rolls up its programme of the Fourth Parliament. - SAnews.gov.za
