Wednesday, January 1, 2025

Missed the mark on your National Senior Certificate (NSC) exams? Don’t worry! The Department of Basic Education’s Second Chance Matric Programme (SCMP) is here to help you turn things around and achieve your goals.

Registration for the 2025 Second Chance Matric Programme opened in October 2024 and will close on 7 February 2025.

The Second Chance Matric Programme is a matric rewrite programme that was established in 2016 for learners who would like to improve their results or eventually complete their matric qualification on a part-time basis.

The aim of the programme is to provide support to learners who have not been able to meet the requirements of the National Senior Certificate (NSC) or the extended Senior Certificate (SC).

“SC candidates can register at their nearest district office or online on e-Services at https://www.eservices.gov.za/. NSC candidates can only register at their nearest district office,” the department said.

According to the department, the programme responds to the National Development Plan’s directive to improve retention rates, reduce dropout rates and leave no one behind.

Benefits of the programme include:

•    Learners are able to meet the requirements of the NSC or SC and obtain a Grade 12 matric certificate,
•    Increase learner retention,
•    Increase computer skills, job opportunities and career pathing,
•    Learners are able to access bursary opportunities for further studies.
•    Learners who wish to improve their matric results, or adult students who want to study towards their Grade 12 matric certificate, can register with the Second Chance Matric programme.

To register you must submit:

•    A completed registration form,
•    A copy of your SA ID or passport if you are a foreign candidate,
•    A copy of your previous highest qualification.

Learners are supported by face-to-face classes in centres around South Africa, as well as lessons which are broadcast on TV and radio, and online study material.

The department said targeted subjects include Accounting, Agricultural Science, Business Studies, Economics, English FAL, Geography, History, Mathematics, Mathematical Literacy, Physical Sciences and Life Sciences. - SAnews.gov.za
