Pretoria - Platinum Stars midfielder Thuso Phala is expected to appear before the Brits Magistrates Court in the North West this morning on a charge of speeding.
The former Mamelodi Sundwons player has been out on R1 500 bail after his arrest last month for clocking 195 km/h on a speed camera on the N4 Bakwena Platinum Highway in the North West.
Phala, 26, was arrested near the Brits off-ramp while driving his BMW from Rustenburg towards Pretoria on Saturday, 20 August.
He was locked up at the Brits Police Station and later released on bail negotiated by his lawyer.
North West MEC for Human Settlements, Public Safety and Liaison, Desbo Mohono, is confident that intensified speed law enforcement will contribute significantly towards reducing accidents and fatalities caused by irresponsible driver behaviour across the province.
Meanwhile, the province is mourning the death of 16 road accident victims, who died in a crash outside Zeerust last Friday. Speeding is the suspected cause of the crash. - BuaNews
