Pretoria - The former Deputy Minister of Social Development, Jean Swanson-Jacobs’s funeral has been declared a special official funeral, by President Jacob Zuma.
“The National Flag will fly at half mast at every flag pole on 20 July 2013, the day of her funeral,” the Presidency said on Tuesday.
Swanson-Jacobs passed away last week in a Cape Town hospital after a long illness.
She was the deputy minister of the department from 2004 to 2009.
“Dr Swanson-Jacobs was instrumental in the fight against violence against women and children and the scourge of alcohol and substance abuse. She was also actively involved in the formation of community structures, including the launch of the ‘Ke moja – I’m fine without drugs’ campaign to combat the scourge. Her community development work will be sorely missed,” said President Zuma. - SAnews.gov.za
