Study material to help during strike

Pretoria - Gauteng MEC for Education Barbara Greecy visited the Kwa Bhekilanga Secondary School in Johannesburg earlier today were study material booklets were handed out to learners at the school.

Earlier this week the department announced it would be handing over 40 000 booklets to schools in the province to assist learners with preparations for exams as part of contingency plans during the current public servants' strike.

Matric learners have two weeks left to prepare for their preliminary exams and less than two months before the start of their final exams.

Gauteng Department of Education spokesperson Charles Phahla told BuaNews that the MEC was impressed by the number of learners who had turned up at the school and organised themselves into study groups despite the absence of teachers.

"Learners had organised themselves into study groups helping each other to prepare for the exams," Phahla said, adding that this showed commitment on the pupils' part.

The study material is also available on the department's website.
