Pretoria – The Gauteng Education Department has launched an investigation to probe allegations against a Johannesburg teacher, who sent one of his learners a picture of himself naked.
According to media reports, on July 30, the teacher engaged in a late-night WhatsApp chat with the boy's mother, thinking it was the learner. The teacher allegedly sent numerous sexual images and made sexual suggestions. The mother then laid criminal charges against the teacher.
Department spokesperson Gershwin Chuenyane said the teacher has been suspended pending the outcome of the investigation.
“The teacher is currently out on bail,” he said.
Cheunyana said the investigation will also look at how the school handled the case.
He said after the investigation, a report will guide officials on the steps to be taken. – SAnews.gov.za
