Pretoria - Police have confirmed that the body found on Table Mountain, after an apparent suicide on Sunday night, was that of property developer Rob Taylor.

Police spokesperson, Captain Ezra October, said a family member identified the body as Taylor's on Monday night.

Taylor made headlines last year when he handed over an Audi R8, worth more than R2 million, and R20 000 in cash to card guards working at the cablecar station at Table Mountain.

He is believed to have jumped from a viewing platform at the top of Table Mountain after taking the cableway to the top on Sunday.

October said police were investigating the circumstances surrounding Taylor's death.

"An inquest docket has been registered and will be investigated," he added.
