Port Elizabeth - The National Department of Housing team has deployed a team to asses the storm damaged areas in the Eastern Cape.
According to the department the team consisting of engineers, inspectors and other supporting officials will render support to the Eastern Cape Provincial Government and Ndlambe Municipality in the storm-hit area of Alexandria near Port Elizabeth.
The quick weather storm left more than 50 families displaced on Monday with one person admitted to hospital when the area was hit by the storm.
A storm has left a trail of destruction at the area and uprooted trees, blew off roofs and damaged cars and at least 20 houses
The team consisting of engineers, inspectors and other supporting officials is led by the Deputy Director General, Kaba Kabakagambe.
On a statement the department confirmed that the team is already working with officials from the municipality and the provincial government to access the damage to the houses and the community infrastructure.
Minister of Housing Lindiwe Sisulu said would be within the coming hours to give the extent of the damage, identify houses that need to be repaired and those that need more serious attention.
"The people of Alexandria can rest assured that together with the Province and the Municipality we will do everything possible to ensure their lives return o normal as soon as possible" Minister Sisulu said
