Tourism Department announces change to Director-General's surname

The Department of Tourism has announced a change to the surname of its Director-General, in compliance with Section 26 of South Africa's Births and Deaths Registration Act of 1992.

The Director-General, previously known as Nkhumeleni Victor Tharage, will now be addressed as Nkhumeleni Victor Vele. 

“The Department of Tourism wishes to notify its sector and government stakeholders, members of the media, as well as the general public of the change to the Director-General's last name, in accordance with Section 26 of South Africa's Births and Deaths Registration Act of 1992. 

“The Director-General’s surname was changed in the Population Register from Tharage to Vele. Effective immediately, the Director-General of Tourism should be addressed as Mr. Nkhumeleni Victor Vele,” the department said. 

The department has also updated the Director-General's official email address to reflect his new surname. Stakeholders and members of the public can now direct correspondence to VeleV@tourism.gov.za. 

The department urged stakeholders to update their contact records and databases to ensure seamless communication.
