Pretoria - The truck driver involved in the fatal crash which killed Public Service and Administration Minister Collins Chabane, his driver and a bodyguard will appear before the Polokwane Magistrate’s Court today.
The VW Touareg carrying Minister Chabane crashed into the truck reportedly making a U-turn on the busy N1 highway outside Polokwane in the early hours of Sunday morning, killing Minister Chabane, Sergeants Lesiba Sekele and Lawrence Lentsoane instantly.
The truck driver was arrested and police opened a case of culpable homicide.
Visit to sergeants’ families
Limpopo provincial government spokesperson Phuthi Seloba said Premier Chupu Mathabatha and his MECs will visit the families of the protectors after their special Executive Council meeting, which is currently underway in Polokwane.
Seloba said the provincial leaders will start by visiting Sgt Lentsoane’s family in Ga-Marishane before they visit Sgt Sekele’s family in Ga-Mashashane.
Seloba said the late Sgt Lentsoane will be buried in Ga-Marishane on Saturday, while Sgt Sekele will be laid to rest on Sunday in Ga-Mapankola. Details of memorial services will be announced soon. The protectors will be given official funerals.
