Pretoria - A wage deal to end the three-week truck drivers' strike has been signed.
This after all four unions representing truck drivers signed an undertaking binding them to a three-year industry wage agreement signed this morning.
According to the agreement, employers offered a 10 percent increase in the first year, and eight percent in the second.
This brought to an end the three-week strike in the transport industry, marked by violence that left several truck drivers injured and one dead.
More than 20 000 truck drivers took to the streets demanding higher wages. The striking truck drivers were demanding a 12% wage increase per year until 2014.
The truck drivers' strike had affected the delivery of fuel, cash and consumer goods.
Due to the strike, some petrol stations have been experiencing delays of up to a day in getting fuel, while some have run completely dry. - SAnews.gov.za
