The Democratic Alliance (DA) mayoral candidate, Solly Msimanga, was elected as the mayor. The DA's Rachel Mathebe was elected Speaker of the council.
The city manager for the Tshwane municipality, Jason Ngobeni, presided over the swearing in of councillors and the election of the Speaker of council and the new Mayor.
In his maiden address as Mayor, Msimanga said service delivery will remain an apex priority.
