Tshwane stadia access permits applications now open

Tuesday, May 11, 2010

Pretoria-With only a month before the start of the 2010 FIFA World Cup, applications are now open in the City of Tshwane for Vehicle Access Parking Permits (VAPP) for the Loftus Versfeld precinct during the tournament.

Road closures and access restrictions around Loftus Versfeld will be the same as those used during the FIFA Confederations Cup last year, but residents now need the VAPP for their vehicles and not personal accreditation.

The VAPP system is run by the Metro Police Departments of the host cities, provincial government and the South African Police Force (SAPF).

The City said those wishing to enter the affected zones next month and on match days need to apply for a VAPP. An affected zone is a restricted area with limited access around the Stadium.

The first phase of the access restrictions will take place on June 6 and will affect Kirkness Street and parts of Jorissen Street, Lynnwood Road, Ayton Street and Bond Street.

Full lockdown of a larger zone takes place on the six match days scheduled for June 13, 16, 19, 23, 25 and 29 respectively.

Road users without VAPP's can expect traffic diversions around the stadium area. The main diversion route will be Duncan, Leyds, Walker and Charles; and Schoeman and Pretorius streets.

VAPP applications can be done at the CID House (Corner Eastwood and Park Streets, Eastwood entrance) from now until the end of June.

The office opens its doors at 8am until 4pm on weekdays and between 10am until 2pm on both weekends and public holidays. The VAPP offices will move to the info point on Farenden Street on match days.

Onsite applications can be done at this info point on match days, but residents and local businesses are requested to apply for their permits in advance and are urged to ensure that their guests are in possession of a VAPP prior to arrival.

However, the City said measures are in place to accommodate unexpected visitors.

Applicants are required to produce their original Identity Documents (ID), proof of residence and their vehicle registration documents.

The original documents must be accompanied by certified copies which will remain at the VAPP offices. On match days, vehicles will also not be allowed to park on sidewalks or road reserves inside the affected zone.
