Pretoria - Two South Africans were among those killed in a fire at mall in Doha, Qatar, on Monday, the Department of International Relations and Cooperation (DIRCO) has confirmed.
"The two include a 28-year-old female teacher, who worked at the mall's day care centre and an 18-month-old toddler, who was at the day care centre," DIRCO said.
The South African Embassy in Doha was in touch with the families of the deceased and was rendering consular assistance to them, it added.
"The South African government would like to express its heartfelt condolences to the government and people of Qatar, and especially the families of the deceased, following the blaze that is reported to have killed 19 people," DIRCO said.
According to reports, 13 children were among the dead. The fire apparently broke out at a child care centre at the Villaggio Mall in Doha.
