Pretoria - The Executive Mayor of the City of Tshwane Kgosientsho Ramokgopa today said the city's bus drivers dismissed last week would not be reinstated until due processes had taken place.
More than 900 bus drivers were dismissed after embarking on an illegal strike. "Ill discipline and corrupt personnel will not be tolerated," Ramokgopa said.
Speaking during his State of the City Address, Ramokgopa said those bus drivers who were dismissed will not be automatically reinstated. He apologised to commuters for the inconvenience. "We are restoring order and good governance," he said.
With regards to allegations of corruption, Ramokgopa appealed to those who have evidence to bring it to him, assuring them that he will take steps against those that are implicated. "I need evidence," he said.
Ramokgopa said they were currently looking at an alternative to ensure that there are bus services in the city.
Last week, bus drivers went on the rampage in the Pretoria CBD, stoning cars and tipping over dustbins. The drivers were angry about disciplinary action taken against their colleagues who participated in strike action last year. - BuaNews
