Voting gets off to a smooth start

Pretoria – A large number of voting stations have opened across the country without any hiccups, says Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) Chief Electoral Officer, Mosotho Moepya.

Voting in South Africa’s fifth democratic elections got underway about an hour ago.

Speaking after the opening of voting stations at 7am, Moepya said there had been a few isolated incidents reported in some voting stations, but they were being attended to.

He noted that a large number of stations opened without any incidents.

“Problems may be expected in the first few hours of the opening, not that we are expecting any for the rest of the day. We are busy attending to those reported incidents,”  said Moepya. – SAnews.gov.za
