Pretoria - Following water interruptions in some areas of Gauteng, Water and Sanitation Minister Nomvula Mokonyane will be meeting with the entire Board, the Chief Executive Officer and other senior officials of Rand Water this evening.
The meeting is intended to brief the Minister comprehensively on progress made to resolve the on-going problem and to chart the way forward.
Areas affected include Johannesburg, the East Rand and Pretoria. Some parts of Gauteng have reportedly been without water for two weeks.
The Rand Water Board has already reported that the main cause of interruptions could be pinned down to the ageing infrastructure, vandalism as well as power supply shortage to pump water upstream into reservoirs to supply the affected communities.
Engineering teams from the affected areas’ municipalities have been working around the clock, together with Rand Water to resolve the problem.
A comprehensive report on the current situation is expected this evening after the meeting and will be shared with the media, according to the department. – SAnews.gov.za
