Pretoria - The Correctional Supervision and Parole Board (CSPD) has revoked the parole of the so-called “Waterkloof Two", the Correctional Services Department said on Friday.
“The CSPB met in Tshwane earlier today and decided that the “Waterkloof Two” will only be due for further consideration of placement on parole after serving an additional 12 months in detention,” spokesperson Manelisi Wolela said in a statement.
Wolela said the decision by the parole board confirms the zero tolerance stance towards ill-discipline among inmates, parolees and officials.
The two, Frikie du Preez and Christopher Becker, were re-arrested last week, four days after being released on parole, after a video emerged showing the pair apparently drinking alcohol and having a party in a jail cell in Pretoria's Kgosi Mampuru prison.
Wolela said the investigation into the role of correctional officials in the incident is almost complete.
He reiterated Minister Sbu Ndebele’s statement from Sunday that the profession of corrections has no place for criminals and ill-disciplined officials.
“The department will root out criminal behaviour amongst those who taint our standing, and reputation, in society.”
