With just 40 days to go to the start of the written National Senior Certificate (NSC) exams, the Western Cape government says it pulling out all the stops to support Grade 12 learners.
According to the Western Cape Education Department, their annual matric support booklet has been delivered to over 60 000 candidates in schools.
The booklets, the provincial department said, contain past papers in high enrolment subjects, the exam timetable, study tips, post-matric advice and pass requirements.
“It also provides candidates and their parents with all the details on when and how the results will be released, the dates for remark and recheck applications, and how to apply for supplementary exams after receiving their results if they would like to improve their marks,” the statement read.
Meanwhile, about 18 000 matrics attended Winter School during the June/July holidays, and districts and schools will again be hosting Spring School during the first week of October.
“The Back On Track classes for matrics at selected schools have been taking place during term time every second Saturday. Our schools have also offered their own extra classes and revision support to their learners,” the department said.
The department said Grade 12 teachers have been doing a phenomenal job preparing learners for the exams, despite challenges like the minibus taxi strike and load shedding.
“We thank them for their hard work, and wish them all the best as they continue to ensure that learners are well-prepared for post-school education and employment opportunities.”
Meanwhile, the department said it collected a wide variety of e-learning resources that matrics can use for revision and exam practice, including video lessons, past papers, subject study guides, study tips, schedules for radio and television revision broadcasts, and links to online tutoring.

“To our Class of 2023, this is the home stretch, and the time will fly,” the department said.
The department has urged learners to reach out to their schools or call the toll fee Safe Schools Hotline on 0800 45 46 47 during this stressful period, should they struggle to cope with the pressure.
“We are here for you, and we want you to achieve the goals you have set for yourself.
“Use all the support available to you, work hard every day, and we will celebrate with you when the results are released,” the department said.
The final matric examination period is set to commence on 30 October 2023 and will conclude during the first week of December 2023. – SAnews.gov.za
