Zuma meets NTC of Libya special envoy

Pretoria - President Jacob Zuma on Tuesday received a special envoy of the Libyan Transitional Authority, the National Transitional Council (NTC) of Libya, carrying a message from the Council's Chairman, Mustafa Abdul Jalil.

Special envoy, Yousif Ibrahim Sherif briefed the President on developments in Libya, and conveyed a request for South Africa's assistance in the reconstruction and development of Libya in light of South Africa's experience in peace making and democracy, said the Presidency in a statement.

It said the meeting acknowledged the need for the strengthening of political and economic relations between the two countries, and the need to work under the auspices of the African Union in addressing challenges in Libya.

The delegation also extended an invitation to President Zuma to pay a visit to Libya, and Zuma agreed to honour the invitation as soon as it was possible.
