Pretoria - President Jacob Zuma has wished the Muslim community a happy Eid ul-Fitr.
Extending well wishes on behalf of government and all South Africans, Zuma said: "May you have a peaceful and joyous day with your family, friends and may the coming year be filled with success, prosperity and harmony."
He noted that the Muslim community was celebrating the end of Ramadan - a time when Muslims had devoted themselves to a deep spiritual renewal and reflection.
"It has been a time where the Muslim community made a lot of personal sacrifices, giving to the needy and assisting those less fortunate than themselves.
"Having felt the warmth and love of the Muslim community, I know and trust that this spirit of self-sacrifice, giving and volunteerism will be extended in their everyday life to all South Africans," he said.
Zuma noted that it was this spirit of giving and helping fellow human beings, known as ubuntu, that would uplift and build a better South Africa.
