Gauteng leads with matric results
Pretoria - Gauteng learners have come out tops in the country, leading as the province with the best National Senior Certificate results in 2010.
The province achieved a pass rate of 78.6 percent - up from 2009's pass rate of 71.8 percent. This sees an overall improvement in the province of 6.8 percent.
Overall, all provinces measured a notable improvement from the 2009 matric results - with the Northern Cape coming in as the province with the most improved pass rate, upping 2009's pass rate by 11 percent. The Northern Cape notched up a pass rate of 72.3 percent - up from 2009's 61.3 percent.
Countrywide, the Class of 2010 have reason to celebrate, having achieved an overall pass rate of 67.8 percent - up by 7.2 percent from 2009.
The Western Cape follows Gauteng to achieve a 2010 matric pass rate of 76.8 percent - up by 1.1 percent from 2009's 75.7 percent. Following closely, was the North West with 75.7 percent, the Northern Cape with 72.3 percent, KwaZulu-Natal with 70.7 percent and the Free State with 70.2 percent.
KwaZulu-Natal proved to be the province with the second most improved pass rate - improving by 9.6 percent from 2009.
Trailing behind is the Eastern Cape with a 2010 matric pass rate of 58.3 percent, Limpopo with 57.9 percent and Mpumalanga with 56.8 percent.
